This 5 week course explores the potential of image to take on a new life in the inky world of printmaking where photographic images and transfers are combined with inks in the form of monoprints, stencils, and other layering techniques.

This course will expand your vision and allow you to explore the potential of your imagery within the context of printmaking. We will begin with photographic images as the basic building block on which several layers are combined to augment and build interesting intersections of ideas, chance and expressive mark making.

Artists with or without printmaking experience will enjoy making work at their own level.

This course is ideal for artists, photographers and printmakers who want to learn a photo-based approach to printmaking. Produce one-of-a-kind images and varied editions of your images that each have a unique appearance.

August 4 - Intro class, videos, Powerpoint on processes and layering options.  Discussions of physicality in 2D and envisioning layers.

August 11 - Photocopy transfers with Eucalyptus Oil with specific assignments for augmentation

August 18-  MONOPRINTING, stencilling, and coordinating monoprints with your images.

August 25 - Transparency transfers on monoprints with hand sanitizer gel, Wetleaf Transfer

Sept 1-  Sharing, augmenting your work with hand colouring and/or collage

ABOUT Jari Poulin

Baldessin Studio is delighted to have USA based artist Jari Poulin offer this Masterclass in 2022.

Jari Poulin is an artist who uses photography and printmaking based in Ithaca, NY.  She holds her MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design (formerly the Art Institute of Boston). Her work is portrait based and explores ideas of the ephemeral, memory, and identity. As a former dancer/choreographer her work often features movement and dance or the implied sense of physicality and energetics. She is fascinated by and deploys various forms of obfuscation within her imagery to both challenge and push the boundaries of how the brain chooses to see, fill in the blanks, and discard visual information.  As an artist and fine art photographer, Jari’s images are photographically based.  She uses both digital and analog processes as well as printmaking techniques such as polymer photogravure, monotypes, mixed media and stenciling within her practice. She is a Printmaker Member of the Ink Shop Printmaking Center in Ithaca, NY where she regularly works and teaches workshops. Ms. Poulin is the recipient of many national and international awards including the International Photo Awards (IPA), 7th Worldwide Pollux Awards, Moscow International Foto Awards (MIFA), Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3), ND Magazine Awards, Black and White Magazine Portfolio Award Winner, Color Magazine Portfolio Prize, the Ink Shop International Mini Print Juried Exhibit. Her work has been exhibited widely including Galerie la Ferme du Mousseau, Elacourt France, Limerick, Ireland, PhotoPlace Gallery  in Vermont, The Atlanta Photography Group, SE Center for Photography, C4FAP,  Lunder Gallery in Boston, Cape Cod Center for Photography, NYC for the Story of the Creative Exhibition, See Me Year in Review Exhibition on Long Island, The Ink Shop Printmaking Center, State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca, NY, and in many venues throughout the Finger Lakes region.
