Accommodation

For artists or writers wishing to stay on-site at the Baldessin Press, we offer a choice of comfortable, simple self-contained accommodation. Staying and working full time over a number of days or weeks does allow for a level of immersion, focus and concentration that is often hard to achieve! Not to mention the degree of relaxation, creativity and well-being that comes from being free to work and rest to your own timetable, in such tranquil surroundings. Available all year for retreats and during workshops. Currently two self-contained apartments are available, each with a different character: the Gîte and the Artist's Garret.

Our accommodation is available during workshops and for retreats.

Come and work, dream, contemplate and rejuvenate your creative self among the gumtrees in the silence and peace. Optional extras include technical assistance, and transport to/from Hurstbridge train station.

For further information and bookings, please contact us.

The Artist's Garret

In the attic above the studio, this one-bedroom flat overlooks the bush at treetop height; ideal for bird- and kangaroo-spotting. The Garret is the ideal space for an artistic retreat, with 24-hour access to the studio downstairs. Access is via an exterior staircase.

The Garret has a friendly, cosy feel with sloping whitewashed attic ceilings and dormer windows. The bedroom has a queen size bed and ensuite, with a fully equipped kitchen, sitting room and small balcony. Access is via an exterior staircase. Note: there is no internet access, or air conditioning (fans are available). The property runs on tank water. Sleeps two.

$60 per night - extra person $10 per night + $30 cleaning/booking fee added to the total of your stay.
Special Retreat package rate for three or more nights with 24 hr studio access: $100 per night/day (save $20 per day) + add $30 booking/cleaning fee to the total of your stay.

The Gîte

Retaining the rustic stone and timber look, but newly renovated, the Gîte is next to the main house and kitchen garden.

Recently refurbished, it has a large deck where you can sit and enjoy the bush close up. A double bedroom, a large living space with sofa-bed, and a new bathroom and kitchen makes the Gîte the newest and most comfortable space at Baldessin.

This is the only space with wireless internet connection. Suitable for people wishing to share (sleeps up to 4) or for a longer or more comfortable stay.

$70 per night - extra person $10 per night
Add $30 cleaning/booking fee to the total of your stay.

Staying at Baldessin Press or a nearby B&B

We are delighted to welcome you at Baldessin Press and we will do all we can to make your stay comfortable and happy.

Staying on the property—the Gîte or the Garret

We try to keep costs down to remain accessible to most budgets. The price does not include breakfast, so you will need to factor that in, but there is tea and coffee provided. There is electric heating and fans, no TV.

Evening meals are available at local eateries, or self-catered in your unit. Please check the opening hours of the local eateries as they mostly open from Thursday to Sunday.

Accommodation does not have air conditioning so please prepare accordingly.

Staying at a local B&B

Please liaise carefully with your B&B to check what they provide etc. If you need transport to and from your B&B, please pre-arrange this with us.

Public transport, taxi

Taxi – If you are flying into Melbourne, we suggest you contract a private taxi that can bring you straight to the studio. We generally use the services of Kumar:
0424 254 009 / sunnymishra2001@yahoo.com
Kumar has driven people from the airport to the studio on many occasions, so he knows the way. He will also stop at a local supermarket for you to pick up supplies on the way. You just need to pre-arrange this with him. The trip from the airport to the studio will take about one hour and will generally cost about $110 (AUD).

Public transport – Our closest strain station is Hurstbridge. We are happy to pick you up from the station with advance warning. A trip from the city of Melbourne to Hurstbridge will generally take about an hour. You will need to purchase a MYKI card at the station to travel on public transport anywhere around Melbourne.
