Our supported residencies are awarded periodically at the discretion of Baldessin Studio and are dependent on current financial constraints. There is no application required and the residency is by invitation. If you would like to sponsor a residency and/or artist, please get in touch!

- Recipients’ outcomes must complement the existing program and array of techniques offered at Baldessin Studio
- That we see potential and value in encouraging and supporting the individual artist

The Australian Galleries / Baldessin Supported Residency was a joint collaboration between Australian Galleries and Baldessin Studio to support an emerging printmaker in their practice.

Australian Galleries/Baldessin Studio Supported Residency
We are very fortunate to have been able to support the work many artists here at the Baldessin Studio. This support presents itself in different ways, and with different outcomes. Thanks to the generous donations from those who support the studio, we have been able to provide studio access and technical support to the following artists:
Kylie Watson, Mel Hartigan, Sophia Szilagyi, Ben Armstrong, Tom Civil, Donna Killeen, Anella Petrie, Kate Zizys, Simon Normand and Zo Damage.
Recipients of Baldessin Studio Supported Residencies
Anella Petrie is a Melbourne based printmaker, with an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts, who quit her career as a 3D computer games artist 3 years ago to create her own art. Anella has been experimenting and extending her ideas into unconventional print making at Baldessin Studio over the past couple of years.
The principle theme running throughout her work is the exploration of subconscious driven human behaviour & she regularly pays homage in her works to her obsession to Japan, vintage objects & pop culture.
Anella’s art generally includes a high number of unique prints due to her love of experimentation with tessellated origami, vintage pattern paper & gold leaf during the printing process.

Kate Zizys is a Gippsland based artist working across visual art disciplines including image and print based media, sound and moving image production. Themes include female archetypes, psyche and our human condition.

Simon Normand is a sculptor, printmaker, painter, author and environmentalist. For over 25 years he has been creating art for the public domain, exhibiting as well as working with elders in Sth-East Arnhem Land, recording oral histories. Travelling extensively throughout the Gulf country, he created numerous maps detailing an indigenous perspective of the land as a permanent record for the people that have always lived there.
2020– Simon Normand
Acclaimed Melbourne live music photographer Zo Gay, better known as Zo Damage, has been documenting the underground live music scene for over a decade.
Baldessin Studio is delighted to support Zo as she now incorporates printmaking with her photography and extends into fine art, abstract and deeply emotive subject matters. Zo is completing her Masters of Photography at RMIT University and has recently delved into the world of Photogravure to complement her art practice.
