STUDIO ACCESS

Baldessin Studio is a not-for-profit incorporated association with charitable status, established in memory of the late George Baldessin. His original studio is now open to the public for creative use, operating as a practical legacy to living artists and continuing his generous and collaborative spirit.

Today, Baldessin Studio is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who strive to provide a supportive and collegial environment for printmakers.

Studio Access hours:
Tuesday to Friday, from 9.30am – 5pm
Weekend Studio Access is available by arrangement only

Studio access allows artists to work on their own projects in the company of others.
Printmaking experience is essential when using the etching presses. Artists are required to bring their own materials and lunch.

While technical assistance may be available, it is not included as part of general studio access.
If you require assistance, please advise us at the time of booking so arrangements can be discussed.

FEES & CHARGES

ACCESS FEES
In addition to studio access, the Baldessin Studio provides the following shared materials for use:
newsprint, rags, low-toxic cleaning solvents (where possible), scrapers and palette knives, rollers and brayers, kitchen facilities, and tea and coffee.

Access Fees $70 per day – All studio users are required to pay a daily access fee, which covers use of printmaking equipment, including:
– Presses and blankets
– Rollers
– Drying racks
– Printers and exposure units (where applicable)
– Flattening bats
– Shared cleaning supplies
 
Access Fee (Full Studio) $210 per day – The entire studio may be booked for exclusive use, subject to availability and the scale of your project. This includes access to all three presses and all equipment listed above. Please contact us to discuss your project and availability.

Studio Inks Use $22 per day – This includes access to a generous range of studio inks across multiple types, brands, and colours. Artists are also welcome to bring their own inks, which is recommended when editioning.

OH&S INDUCTION
If you are new to the studio, you must complete an OH&S and studio protocols induction prior to using the facilities. This induction only needs to be completed once and may be undertaken at the beginning of your studio access day.
OH&S Induction Fee – $93.50

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE & TUITION
Technical assistance — $93.50 per hour
Available by arrangement for skill refreshment, post-workshop support, or technical guidance.

One-on-one tuition — $550 per day
Available by arrangement for individual tuition with a printmaker experienced in the technique you wish to explore.


PRINTMAKING/ART MATERIALS
Additional Materials – We stock a select range of basic printmaking materials available for purchase, including:
– A limited range of printmaking and chine collé papers
– Tarlatan and Akua wiping fabrics
– Inkjet papers
– Photopolymer plates
– Tissue paper
– Hard and soft grounds

All prices include GST.

Baldessin Studio is a non-profit open-access printmaking studio that is a Registered Charity with Deductible Gift Recipient status and all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Run by a dedicated team of volunteers and a part-time studio manager, Baldessin Studio needs donations and support to help keep the doors open.
