Chine-collé or chine collé (French: [ʃin.kɔ.le]) is a printmaking technique in which the image is transferred onto a surface that is bonded onto a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, that pulls finer details off the plate. Another purpose is to provide a background colour behind the image that is different from the surrounding backing sheet.
This Workshop will explore the various techniques of adding colour to your plate with a seperate thin paper – either over the full plate or in specific areas.
We will use Japanese papers as well as creating our own colours via pigmented Inkjet printing
Workshop covers:
• Digital techniques for preparing your black & white image
• Making an A4 size photogravure plate from your image
• Options for existing coloured chine collé papers (store bought)
• Inkjet printing a colour layer of your choice on to Japanese Chine Collé paper
• Registration techniques for combining your chine collé and your photopolymer plate
• Adhesive options for chine collé
• Make an A4 Photogravure plate and print.
