Artist Statement
I initially came to Baldessin Studio to do a photogravuere course with Silvi in 2021. It was a match made of dreams. Since that first visit, I have had the pleasure and honor of a sponsored residency. I also received a Sustaining Creative Workers grant (2022), which I used to continue my learning and making at Baldessin Studio. Any chance I have, I am there! My admiration and gratitude to Tess and Silvi and the whole team is boundless. I have grown as an artist, in the beautiful landscape of Baldessin Studio. Moving through is a continuation of my investigation into how it feels to be in nature. 

Sophia Szilagyi (b.1973) is a Melbourne-based artist who works predominantly in digital printmaking. Practicing since the 1990s, she has had numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her work is held in major collections around Australia including Artbank, State Library Victoria, and the Queensland University of Technology Art Museum.

To mark its 25th year, Baldessin Studio has embarked on a very special project—inviting 53 members of its community to create an editionable print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
