The images for Patagonia Passage 1 were made in-camera, layering multiple exposures in a single frame while moving through the Patagonian landscape. Birds mid-flight, mountain ranges receding into cloud, water and sky shifting in the wind—compressed together into one moment that never quite existed.

The technique felt true to the experience of travelling through this country. Ridge dissolving behind ridge, weather arriving before the last has passed, scale that keeps reordering itself as you move through it. The multiple exposure allowed me to hold something of that restlessness: the sense that what you are seeing is already becoming

something else.

Silvi Glattauer (b.1966) is a Naarm (Melbourne) based photo-media artist, blending digital and handmade techniques, specialising in Photogravure. Rooted in nature, ecology, and personal narrative, her practice explores materiality, symbolism, and preciousness—forging an emotional connection between audience and the natural world. Glattauer’s work is held in private and public collections across Australia and abroad.
