Artist Statement
I received my BFA in Printmaking from the Phillip Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, 1980s, specialising in lithography and etching. It was during this time I became deeply enamoured with the work of George Baldessin. As a young printmaker, his work spoke to me profoundly, its alluring graphic sensibility, incisive observation, and technical brilliance left a lasting impression on me. Some 35 years later, it is both an honour and a privilege to find myself now teaching a multi-plate collagraph masterclass at the very Studio that George established with Tess in the 1970s. There’s something profoundly meaningful about this full-circle moment.

Heading Home was inspired by the collection of Captain James Cook, assembled on his many South Pacific expeditions in 1778-1781. These natural oddities and biological curiosities were the catalyst for these diaristic drawings.

Sarah Amos (b.1965) originally from Australia, lives in Vermont, USA and maintains an active International and National exhibition schedule. Sarah left Australia after receiving a BFA in Printmaking from RMIT to attend the Tamarind Institute of Lithography in New Mexico where she became a certified Tamarind Master Printer in Lithography. From 1998-2008 Sarah was the Master Printer at the Vermont Studio Center Press and during this time she also received an MFA from the University of Northern Vermont. Sarah has been an Adjunct Professor at Dartmouth, Williams and Bennington College, teaching Printmaking and Drawing since 2007.
