Artist Statement
Rewilding is a study for a larger engraving. The species depicted whilst not botanically accurate hopefully conveys a sense of being within an ecosystem. Influenced by rewilding and regenerative projects in both rural and urban areas, I wished to capture the seemingly chaotic nature of many different species intermingling. The impact of an increasingly dense built urban environment means the need for trees and diverse plantings to counteract urban heat island is of the utmost importance for providing heathy places to live and work.

My connection to Baldessin Studio is one of a user of the facilities and a supporter. It was my pleasure to facilitate the gifting of Hertha Kluge-Pott’s much loved etching press to the studio as well as printing my own work. I have also printed with Rick Amor many times. Baldessin Studio is a fulcrum for creative printmaking. The magic of this place in the hills starts well before arriving. The journey there is a preparation of the mind. It’s not only the place that makes it unique, but also the brilliant people. 

Rosalind Atkins’ (b.1957) practice is firmly placed in printmaking traditions, in particular engraving. She has exhibited widely within Australia and internationally, with work held in major public collections. Collaboration is a significant part of her practice having worked with artists, writers and publishers. Atkins currently teaches Printmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), University of Melbourne.
