Artist Statement
My desk is currently situated in the former studio of the late Australian artist Clifton Pugh, where I gaze at a constellation of hand drawn tracings of his tools across the wall. Peering through the windows at me are the jostling leaves of Eucalyptus Polyanthemos, commonly known as Redbox. The two made an enthusiastic meeting in my mind and grew a new headspace, into which I plan to disappear and keep discovering what is possible to make with my hands. My process inevitably leads me up the road to the Baldessin Studio, where I edition my linocuts under the impressive weight of the Albion.

Mirranda Burton (b.1973) was born in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Mirranda is an artist and graphic novelist living and working on Wurundjeri land/Melbourne, Australia. She has more than twenty years of experience working between printmaking, independent and commercial animation, education, illustration and graphic storytelling.

To mark its 25th year, Baldessin Studio has embarked on a very special project—inviting 53 members of its community to create an editionable print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
