Out of the Garden is from a new series of work that extends my interest in mythologies, sexuality and landscape. Using images of museum statues and layered macro shots of urban gardens, the series explores the conjunction of opposites: the hard and the soft, the wild and the contained, the enduring and the ephemeral.

Marcus O’Donnell (b.1960) is a Melbourne artist, academic and writer, who works across a range of traditional and digital print, photographic and multimedia processes. His Queer Saints series was featured as part of Baldessin Studio’s contribution to the 2026 Melbourne Art Print Fair edition.2 at Linden New Art. O’Donnell has been a member of the Baldessin Studio Committee of Management since 2024.

Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
