Artist Statement
Long fascinated with urban form and cityscapes, my prints draw inspiration from my immersion in Melbourne’s inner urban environment combined with insights gained from my urban planning and visual art studies.

Suburban revitalisation is part of a series exploring housing styles of the inner north of Melbourne, where I have sought to capture the essence of a simpler time, distinctly physical and analogue, before digitisation and globalisation invaded and evolved the city and gentrified the neighbourhood.

I joined the Baldessin Studio Committee of Management in 2024 and serve as an enthusiastic representative at studio open days and events.

Jennifer Smyth (b.1976) has been a printmaker for over two decades and studied Visual Art including printmaking, at Royal Melbourne Institute of TAFE. Smyth completed short courses at the Australian Print Workshop in Lithography and Etching, and then in 2024 became addicted to photogravure after attending Silvi’s workshops at Baldessin Studio.

To mark its 25th year, Baldessin Studio has embarked on a very special project—inviting 53 members of its community to create an editionable print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
