Artist Statement
My recent work has centred upon geoaesthetics, the archive and the consequences of extraction. Here I have focussed on the materiality and vitality of the rocks of the Newer Volcanics Province, that form the volcanos of western and central Victoria. Now cold and solid rock, the lava eruptions would have been spectacular to see. The boulder with its bubbly interior is a record of 110,000 years ago. This works was developed as part of Lithic Traces in the Archive, which began in 2024 as part of the State Library Victoria Tate Adams Memorial Fellowship at Baldessin Studio. 

Dr Perdita Phillips (b.1967) based in Walyalup, on unceded Whadjak Nyoongar Boodja land, works across a variety of media, exploring ecological and place-based approaches. Her work is marked by a continuing interest in the relationships between humans and more-than-human others. Underlying her practice is a general concern with imagining environmental futures.

To mark its 25th year, Baldessin Studio has embarked on a very special project—inviting 53 members of its community to create an editionable print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
