I chose this image on an intuitive impulse. Whilst making, I began to view it as a poetic musing of living through uncertainty with unknown futures that are only realised as they are experienced—like distant trees emerging through a fog that takes shape as you grow closer. Cyanotype speaks to a sense of memory and time; the strong, yet fragile materiality of Kozo to cycles of entropy and material cycling in the environment; and the blind emboss gives rise to subtle dimension of haunting forms.

I’m blessed to have been welcomed into the Baldessin Studio after the selection of my RMIT graduate work for an award of a workshop and studio access to support the development of my practice. I look forward to experimenting in the studio for years to come!

Dionne Ogilvie (b.1986) is an emerging interdisciplinary artist working in the expanded field of print, living and creating on Wurundjeri land. Her work is grounded in ecological and environmental concern, an expression of duality of feeling—grief and loss, reverence and hope—in response to the Anthropocene. Ogilvie’s research has led her to a focused interest in material agency and the use of alternative or biomaterials to elicit emotional resonance through the sensory eliciting connection and empathy through subject matter.
