Artist Statement
Cant speak now, the work that I will be showing in the 25 year anniversary show, is a multi-plate etching about being busy; a man blunders through a night landscape, complete with rock garden and pursuing bats. Somehow Baldessin Studio, which upon my discovery some 13 years ago, managed to fit the bill of a dreamscape bush studio – complete with wild bromeliad gardens – the perfect printing escape from urban Melbourne, is part of this print.

Chris Ingham (b.1974) lives and works in Melbourne where he divides his time between his art practice and teaching printmaking methods and techniques. He spent 10 years working at the Australian Print Workshop as an access studio coordinator, teacher and fine art printer.

Ingham has participated in numerous residencies in both Europe and North America, and along with this has exhibited his work widely and shown in many prize and group shows here in Australia. He is currently exhibiting with Australian Galleries. His work explores traditional mediums and methods of making art, coupled with an expressive and gestural personal mark making style, which is heavily reliant on spontaneity, humour and freshness.

Chris Ingham is represented by Australian Galleries, Melbourne and Sydney.

To mark its 25th year, Baldessin Studio has embarked on a very special project—inviting 53 members of its community to create an editionable print for the Baldessin Studio 25th Anniversary Print Collection. Launching at Sydney Contemporary, the collection is a celebration of the incredible community of artists who engage in the life of the studio, as well as a fundraiser to ensure the organisation can continue its work and sustain its vision, “to inspire and enable innovative printmaking whilst upholding the Baldessin ethic of fostering creativity in all forms”.
