Artist Statement
Through my connection to the Baldessin family, I discovered etching when I came to live in St Andrews, where I was introduced to the possibilities of printmaking. I feel fortunate to have access to Baldessin Studio, where I have  learned the process of etching with the generous guidance of Rob Hails.

My practice explores sculptural and floral forms, creating compositions that are both organic and imaginative. Depending on the work, botanical elements may take on a totemic quality or create an architectural presence. I like extending these themes across both my printmaking and jewellery practice.

April Mae Alegre (b. 1979)  has always loved making art, drawing and painting. April studied art throughout high school and later pursued studies in Visual Communication, before working in advertising as a Creative Director in Paris. After leaving advertising, April developed a strong passion for jewellery making, drawn to its intimate scale, craftsmanship, and sculptural possibilities. April has also explored ceramics, and these experiences continue to inform her approach to form, texture, and composition.
