A 2 day intensive, hands on workshop introducing you to the fascinating art of aluminium plate lithography.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers who wish to explore a new medium.

Using this immediate and accessible technique of drawing directly on to the aluminium plate, you can break into the world of lithography, while covering the essentials, from drawing an image to successfully rolling up and printing the plate with an etching press.

Unlike stone lithography, printing with aluminium plates gives great results without a lot of preparation and heavy lifting, allowing artists to create immediate and fresh imagery using crayons and touches for painterly results.

This workshop will cover:

Plate preparation

Cutting plates to size

De-oxidizing plates

Setting up registration marks and gumming margins

Transferring drawings to the plate

Drawing on plates with crayons and touche

First Etch

Roll up and Second Etch

Washing out image

Rolling up

Second etch

Printing and Editioning

Setting up the etching press for lithography

Proofing, printing and editioning
