The Baldessin Press & Studio welcomes back artist Ros Atkins to share her expertise and knowledge of the art of wood engraving.
Exploring the unique properties of this beautiful relief medium, Ros will introduce participants to the materials and techniques of engraving, as well as offer in-depth tuition for those who are familiar with the process. The nature of the finely grained blocks allows for fine detail and a range of handling—from graphic to tonally rendered images. By the end of this two day program participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue wood engraving outside of the workshop environment.
The workshop covers—choice of imagery, transfer of images, cutting of the block, use and care of tools and the printing of an edition.
Rosalind Atkins completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT. Her intricate woodblocks have been included in group exhibitions of printmaking at the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne and Asialink touring Australia and Asia in 2000. Atkins published an artist book with Lyre Bird Press through the James Cook University in Townsville. Her work is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne and several university and regional galleries including Geelong.
