These workshops will offer you the opportunity to experiment with making an art book that includes content as well as techniques for bookbinding and construction methods. Each week-end will introduce you to different projects.
Week-end One: 6 & 7 April 2019
Artists Book(s) with a focus on hand-printed content. This workshop will teach students a variety of book structures ( 2 x fold books and 1 x coptic binding, time allowing).
In addition, students will be able to handprint the content of their books using some of the wooden type owed by BP.
An ideal for enthusiasts of bookbinding, printing, typography and artists books
No Experience necessary.
Week-end Two: 13 & 14 April 2019
Crossed structure binding in leather, with paste-paper endpapers.
Students will complete a limp leather binding with exposed sewing. Learn simple paste paper techniques to create endpapers for the book. Some prior experience is recommended but not essential.

Born under a road sign, raised by wolves, rescued by a lighthouse keeper. In the right place at the right time, won a competition to be a duke, stint as a milkman, cult following by 3pm via word of mouth, apprenticed to master craftspeople, detour via university, met muse while interning in Europe for food and board. Acquired professional experience through trial and error, with an eyebrow raised….
For the rest, I undertook private studies in bookbinding in the UK and France, developed further in both professional and self driven practice. The MSB was started to pass on the skills and knowledge I’d acquired to anyone who was interested in bookbinding. The OrtBindery grew from that established studio…

Terms
A $100 deposit for each weekend will be required to secure an enrolment. Balance of Course Fee is payable no later than commencement of first class. An invoice will be sent out with your enrolment acknowledgment.
A course fee refund will be given if:
A class in which you are enrolled is cancelled, or
Notice of your withdrawal from a class is given at least three weeks in advance.
Please note:
On CODE RED days The Baldessin Press and Studio will be closed and no classes or activities will run.
On TOTAL FIRE BAN days The Baldessin Press and Studio will normally remain open, and staff will monitor official advice and weather. If weather escalates staff will consider cancelling activities. Any decision to cancel any workshops during the course of Total Fire Ban days will be made as a result of a notice from CFA of a “Watch and Act” or “Emergency Warning” affecting that area.
